A Word from the President With the new issue of the World Journal of Biological Psychiatry, there are two now publications of the WFSBP Task Forces. First, I am delighted to inform you that the WFSBP Guidelines for the Biological Treatment of Bipolar Disorders: Update 2009 on the Treatment of Acute Mania are now available With this comprehensive manual which includes numerous recommendations the WFSBP aims to provide up-to-date treatment options and thus to further improve treatment for patients world-wide and to spread knowledge also in countries with limited continuing education possibilities. The presented Guidelines are an updpate of the publications in the year 2003 and 2004. I wish to thank Heinz Grunze, Secretary of the WFSBP Task Force on Bipolar Disorders, and the entire taskforce for their superb work. I especially thank Hans-Jürgen Möller, chief editor of the World Journal of Biological Psychiatry for his dedication to develop WFSBP Treatment Guidelines. Thus we are planning to present you further WFSBP Treatment Guidelines in the course of this year. Second, I shall report that the WFSBP Task Force on Biological Markers is very active and has now published a third Consensus Paper, this time the topic is Schizophrenia: From the brain to peripheral markers. A consensus paper of the WFSBP task force on biological markers. I would like to thank Peter Riederer who is very committed to the evolvement of the Task Force. As with all WFSBP Treatment Guidelines and Consensus Papers, they are made available as free download on the official website www.wfsbp.org! The WFSBP Treatment Guidelines and Consensus Papers will be presented in the upcoming WFSBP 2009 Congress in Paris. Sincerely yours,
Siegfried Kasper, MD WFSBP President |
